Connect your Instagram Business account to Platica so your AI agents can automatically reply to direct messages and comments without you having to watch the app all day.
The integration uses the official Instagram Messaging API from Meta, which guarantees a stable, secure connection that complies with the platform's terms of service.
Prerequisites
Before you begin, make sure you have the following:
- An Instagram Business account (Business or Creator) — personal accounts cannot be connected.
- A Facebook page linked to your Instagram Business account.
- Admin permissions on that Facebook page.
If your Instagram account is personal, you'll need to convert it to a professional account before continuing. The process is free and takes just a few minutes in Instagram's settings. You'll also need to link your Instagram account to a Facebook page from within the Instagram app settings.
Connect Instagram
1. Open the Instagram page
From Integrations → Channels, click the Instagram card. You'll see the account management screen.
Click "+ Connect Instagram account" to start the process.
2. Information screen
A screen will appear with details about the Instagram Messaging API and the four requirements you must meet to continue.
Make sure you meet all requirements and click "Get started".
3. Step 1 — Instagram Account
The system will show you a two-step flow. In the first step you need to confirm that you have an Instagram Business account linked to a Facebook page.
Check the box "I have an Instagram Business account linked to a Facebook page" and click "Next: Facebook Permissions".
Don't have a Business account? Click the "Convert your account to professional" link on the same screen. It's free and takes a few minutes from the Instagram app.
4. Step 2 — Facebook Permissions
In the second step you need to confirm that you have admin permissions on the Facebook page linked to your Instagram.
What will happen next:
- A Facebook authorization window will open.
- You'll need to select the Facebook page and the Instagram account you want to connect.
- You'll need to accept all requested permissions for the integration to work correctly.
Check the box "I have admin permissions on the linked Facebook page" and click "Next: Connect Instagram".
It's important to accept all the permissions Meta requests during authorization. If you reject any of them, the integration may connect partially and not all messages will reach Platica.
5. Authorization with Facebook
An official Meta pop-up window will open. Follow the on-screen instructions:
Sign in with your personal Facebook account (the one with the admin role on the page).
Select the Facebook page and the Instagram Business account you want to connect to Platica.
Accept all permissions Meta requests to enable sending and receiving messages.
The window will close automatically. Your Instagram account will appear listed on Platica's management page.
Make sure you don't have any pop-up blockers active in your browser, as they can prevent the Meta window from opening.
What messages arrive in Platica?
Once the account is connected, your AI agent will be able to receive and reply to:
- Direct messages (DMs) that arrive on your Instagram Business account.
- Other types of interactions depending on Meta's Instagram Messaging API capabilities.
Comments on posts are handled differently from direct messages according to the Meta API. Contact support if you need to manage comments on posts.
